Quiet Voltage

Quiet Voltage is built on a simple structural idea -- a precise grid -- and lets color do the rest of the work. Rows of convex acrylic spheres in saturated hues project forward from a smooth white panel, each one catching and bending light differently depending on where you stand and how the room is lit. In daylight, the spheres behave almost like jewels, their polished curves throwing small, sharp reflections across the white ground. As the light in the room dims, the same spheres begin to glow from within, each one giving off a soft halo of its own color, so the piece shifts from a reflective object in daytime to a quietly luminous one at night. The grid itself is rigorously even -- every sphere is the same size, spaced at the same interval, creating a rhythm that feels almost musical in its regularity. Against that order, the colors introduce variation without disrupting the structure; the eye reads the piece first as a pattern, then as a field of individual colored points, then as a single glowing surface, depending on distance and lighting. The white resin panel that holds the grid is finished to a smooth, almost seamless surface, so the spheres appear to float slightly above it rather than being set into it. Quiet Voltage occupies a vertical format, giving it a strong presence on tall or narrow wall sections in a room.
